Bandar Seri Begawan – Kampong Mata-Mata Primary School emerged champion yesterday at the “Kumpulan Tunas Mekar” Competition (Powerpoint Presentation) held at the Dewan Raya, Radio Television Brunei (RTB) in the capital.The Amu Temburong Primary School and Tutong Kern Primary School groups also demonstrated promising potential after winning the first and second runners-up, respectively, ahead of five other schools that competed in the finals yesterday.In his opening remarks as chairman of the event’s organising committee, the Acting Head of the Career and Counselling Unit, Ali Yusri bin Abdul Ghafor said the competition was in line with the unit’s vision of producing talented students, and all-rounders who are capable of communicating and speaking in front of an audience.Present to hand over the prizes to the winners was the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi bin Hj Md Yussof.The deputy minister in his speech applauded the Career and Counselling Unit at the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education for their effort in organising the event.”This competition serves as an initial practice to allow the participants to demonstrate their courage and ability to put across creative and innovative ideas in front of an audience, subsequently to explain those ideas in a clear and confident manner,” he said.”The initiative of introducing the use of Powerpoint Presentation tools for this competition is also a splendid idea as it has demonstrated the students’ ICT abilities.This early exposure will indeed prepare them for the Info-Communications challenges ahead of them.”Prior to the finals, a preliminary was held involving a total of 28 primary schools around the country.
